Guo Yue

Geboren en opgegroeid in China. Hij is de zoon van een heel bekend violist en zanger die stierf wanneer Yue nog een kind was. Op zijn zevende begon Yue fluitlessen te volgen. Zijn carriere starte op zijn zeventiende door zich bij het Peking Army orkest te vervoegen.
In 1983 kwam hij naar Londen en gaf concerten samen met zijn broers onder de naam, The Guo  Brothers.
In 1989 starte hij zijn solo carriere en werkte met niet chinese artiesten waaronder Sinead O’Connor, Hothouse Flowers, Peter Gabriel en was reeds tweemaal te gast op the night of the proms. Samen met Joji Hirota en ALC Sound & Lighting tourde hij door gans Europa begin jaren ’90.
Hij maakte ook composities voor de soundtrack van de film “The last Emperor” en The killing Fields.

Guo Yue: Shan Chi

Guo Yue is the most famous chinese musician in the western world. He was born and grew up in China, the son of a well-known erhu (two- string violin) player and singer who died while Yue was still a child. He began receiving flute lessons at the age of seven, and by the age of
twelve he was being taught by a number of his fathers friends.
Yue's music career began at the age of seventeen when he joined Peking Army Orchestra of the People's Republic of China. In 1983 he arrived in London and formed the Guo Brothers, a line up of Chinese flute, sheng and Chinese percussion, with his brother Guo Yi. They became one of WOMAD most popular acts in the first editions of the festival.

Yue has recorded two CDs with Real World, "Yuan" and "Trisàn" (with Joji Hirota and Pal Brennan), and others for european and asian recording labels (among them: "Red Ribbon")
In 1989 Yue began a solo career and working with non-Chinese musicians including Peter Gabriel, Sinead O'Connor, Joe Cocker, Clannad and Hothouse Flowers. He also performed and helped with the composition on the soundtracks to the film The Last Emperor and The Killing Field, plus many tv documentaries for BBC4.
